Butane Monthly Stocks from May to September Highest Monthly Levels Since 1993

Throughout the course of the first nine months of 2010 butane stock levels ran much higher than in 2009. In fact, butane stock levels on a monthly basis typi- cally ran higher than those found in the same month for several years. Given that butane performed strongly on a price basis for much of this year, one wonders how much greater these values could have gone without such high stock levels. Indeed, the September 2010 stock level of 2.9 million barrels (bbls) was the highest level recorded in the month since at least 1993 according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration and was 38% greater than the stock level of 2.1 million bbls reported at the same time the year prior.
