摘要

In preparing water supply intakes in a Northern Caucasus area in the Russian Federation, we found out that the soil in the water intake area was locally contaminated with heavy metals and As (Table 1). At the same time, the water of the river draining the territory contained heavy metals and As in concentrations no higher than their maximum permissible concentrations (MPC) (Table 2). The local public health survey called into question whether the water supply intakes to be constructed are not hazardous. We evaluated the migration of heavy metals and As from the contaminated soil into water by means of physicochemical numerical simulation in a water—rock system.
