Improved HPLC Method for the Determination of Niflumic Acid in Human Plasma and Its Application to a Bioequivalence Study of Talniflumate Tablets

Niflumic acid (NFA),2-(alpha,alpha,alpha-trifluoro-m-toluidino) nicotinic acid,is a potent analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug,and its prodrug,talniflumate,3-phthalidyl ester of 2-([3-(trifluoromemyl)phenyl]arnino)-3-pyridinecarboxylic acid,has been widely used for the treatment of rheumatoid diseases.Talniflumate,which is synthesized by esterifi-cation of the carboxyl group of NFA,exerts its activity in the body through its conversion to NFA by esterase.It has been reported to show lower ulcerogenic side effects and greater anti-inflammatory activity than the NFA.
