CNOOC to buy stake in Texas shale oil and gas field

China's state-owned offshore oil and gas company CNOOC has agreed to purchase a 33% stake in Chesapeake Energy Corporation's Eagle Ford, south Texas shale oil and gas field. This would be China's first purchase of an onshore energy asset in the US, five years after its failed $18.5 billion bid for Unocal amid strong political opposition in the US.
