Turkmen East-West pipeline likely to feed gas into Nabucco

Turkmenistan's president Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov has said that the proposed East-West pipeline is partly designed to connect Turkmenistan's huge gas reserves to the Nabucco pipeline project. Construction of the $2 billion East-West gas pipeline started in June, with the link designed to transport up to 30 Bcm/year from the huge gas fields in Turkmenistan's eastern provinces to the Caspian Sea starting from June 2015. Upon completion of the East-West gas pipeline Turkmenistan will have a unified system with the possibility to supply large quantities of gas to almost any region in the country. The East-West pipeline is also a precondition for westbound gas exports under the Caspian Sea towards Europe, transiting Azerbaijan.
