Q3 IN REVIEW: South America

It was a mixed third quarter for South America, with the ongoing corruption scandal at Petrobras and territorial disputes making headlines. More positively, opportunities arose in the continent’s hydrocarbon reserves and infrastructure. The corruption investigation at state-owned Petrobras moved beyond the company [1] into the highest levels of government. Marcelo Odebrecht and Otavio Azevedo [2], CEOs of construction companies Odebrecht and Andrade Gutierrez, were arrested on suspicion of corruption, money laundering and criminal conspiracy - charges they denied.
