Isle of Grain Phase 3 starts commercial operations

National Grid announced the start of commercial operations at Phase 3 of its Isle of Grain LNG terminal in south-east England today as gas demand soared during a prolonged cold weather spell. This second capacity expansion was delivered on time and to budget and adds 5 mtpa (6.7 Bcm/year) to the terminal throughput, and 200,000 cubic metres to the LNG storage capacity. The first commissioning LNG cargo for Phase 3 arrived on October 29, and the commissioning process has been completed in just over a month. Phase 3 also provides an unloading jetty capable of berthing and unloading Q-Max vessels, the largest available LNG carriers in the world.
