India reschedules NELP VIII oil and gas licensing round for August

The Indian government has rescheduled NELP VIII, the eighth oil and gas bidding round for the second week of August. The bidding was originally scheduled for last April, but there was confusion over the implementation and clarity of the seven year oil and gas tax exemption.The road show for the 70 oil and gas blocks on offer includes 28 shallow water and 24 deepwater blocks, 8 onshore and 10 blocks that are classed Type-S. According to the NELP VIII website:“Type-S blocks have been defined in Assam for the first time. Of the 10 Type-S blocks being offered, 8 are in the Cambay Basin, which is a known petroliferous basin.”
