Turkmenistan says new tests confirm huge reserves at South Yolatan field

Turkmenistan’s South Yolotan gas field is estimated to contain between 4 Tcm and 14 Tcm of gas, according to the UK advisory firm Gaffney, Cline and Associates (GCA), which makes the field one of the world's five largest gas fields. “The results of recent tests have once again confirmed GCS’s estimates,” Turkmenistan’s oil and gas ministry said in a statement on Thursday. Any gas production from South Yolotan, however, is likely to be some years away as there are a number of technical challenges such as high hydrogen sulphide content (believed to average 8%) and carbon dioxide levels.
