China and Japan to create Asian energy benchmarks

Asia’s two largest economies China and Japan are developing oil and gas derivatives contracts that could eventually establish new industry benchmarks. China is close to launching its own crude derivatives contract, which could come into play as early as October 2015, while leading trading platform, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), are developing a Japanese LNG index.
