Algeria makes four awards from 31 in latest licensing round

Algeria has awarded four of the 31 areas on offer in its latest energy licensing round – a result one official described as “acceptable”. Foreign consortia including Shell, Repsol, Statoil, and Enel all gained acreage thought to be rich in shale. Shell and Repsol won the Boughezoul area in northern Algeria; Statoil and Shell took the eastern Timissit concession in the Illizi-Ghadames Basin; while Enel and Dragon Oil were awarded the Tinrhert and Msari Akabli blocks in the Ahnet and Illizi basins.
