Plans by India’s state-owned gas company GAIL to market some of the LNG it purchases from US suppliers to international buyers could face political opposition in India, which is facing an on-going gas supply squeeze, experts said on Wednesday. GAIL said it was considering marketing its US gas abroad as, earlier this week, it signed a 20-year terminal service agreement for 2.3 mtpa from Dominion’s $3.8 billion Cove Point LNG plant in Maryland. The company said the deal would provide “an opportunity to trade part of the volume in the international market,” as well as in India.
