Power-hungry Iraq to receive first Iranian pipeline exports ‘next month’

Iraq – which presently has insufficient natural gas to fuel its power stations – is hoping to receive its first imports of pipeline gas from Iran next month. In an interview with Gas Matters Today at this week’s World Energy Congress in Daegu, South Korea, the nation’s Deputy Prime Minister for Energy, Dr. Hussein al-Shahristani, said: “The pipeline that we have already signed the contract for is under construction. It should have been finished by July last. It wasn’t. Now the Iranians tell us it will be ready next month.”
