German gas companies invest ?1 billion by 2010 on additional gas storage

German gas companies plan to invest about ?1 billion in developing a total of 19 gas storage projects between 2008 and 2010, aiming to ramp up the country's gas storage volume by 7.4 Bcm, the German energy association BDEW reports. BDEW estimates investment in new gas storage projects to increase from ?300 in 2009 to ?350 million in 2010 – a sharp rise compared to investments made between 2000 and 2006, which averaged ?110 million a year. German gas companies spent a total of ?330 million on storage facilities in 2008.
