British Columbia lease sale nets $1.94 billion, double last year’s total

Canada’s British Columbia state has netted a record C$2.4 billion (US$1.95 billion) in oil and gas lease sales for the 2008-09 fiscal year. The total is double that of last year, mainly due to the growth of the shale gas sector, with the Horn River Basin and Montney shale formations in the northeast of the state accounting for 80% of the lease sales.
