Cuadrilla has been dealt a serious setback in its hope to restart hydraulic fracturing in northwest England on Monday after county authorities in Lancashire denied planning permission for drilling at the Preston New Road site. The UK shale player’s Preston New Road application was rejected on the grounds of “noise and visual impact”, Lancashire county council said on Monday. Councillors voted 9-3 to refuse the application, with two abstentions.
