Chubu Electric boosts gas-fired power following shutdown of nuclear plant

Japan's Chubu Electric Power said it will boost gas-fired power generation after a powerful earthquake shut down its nuclear plant on Tuesday reducing the company’s power output by around 2,400 MW.The Hamaoka nuclear plant reactors No. 4 and No. 5 units shut down automatically when the quake, measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale, hit yesterday morning. Reactor No. 3 was already shut for a routine inspection at the time of the quake, while units 1 and 2 had been decommissioned.
