Dominion’s Cove Point LNG export proposal in the US is not exempt from local zoning laws which regulate land-use, a judge on Maryland’s Calvert County court circuit has ruled, in a decision which could require the $3.4 billion project to comply with a raft of new regulations. Judge James Salmon ruled that Calvert County, the local administration tasked with assessing the planning application for the onshore liquefaction facilities at Cove Point, had violated the state of Maryland’s constitution by exempting the project from the local laws, which usually apply to all development proposals.
