Gazprom and Shell ink LNG and pipeline deals

Russian gas major Gazprom and Shell signed several gas supply agreements on Wednesday, including an agreement for both parties to purchase LNG over a period of 20 years from the Russian Sakhalin-2 liquefaction project. Gazprom Global LNG and Shell Eastern Trading each committed to buy 1 mtpa of LNG from Sakhalin Energy starting from this year until 2028. The pair also signed a pipeline supply agreement which will provide Shell with 1 mtpa of Russian gas for delivery to Europe, both companies said in a joint statement. Moreover, the transaction enables Gazprom affiliates to obtain LNG import capacity, under long-term assignments from Shell, in Sempra’s Energia Costa Azul terminal in Mexico to transport the gas via a pipeline to southern California.
