摘要

CPC Corp’s monopoly on Taiwan’s LNG imports could be coming to an end with plans to allow other companies to lease its pipeline and processing facilities. The Chinese press reports that a draft of the Natural Gas Industry Act is due before the Taiwanese cabinet in April. “Under the new law, big users such as Taiwan Power can look for gas supplies on their own,” Wang Yunn-ming, deputy general of the bureau for energy has been quoted saying. At the moment, power producers have to buy all of their gas from CPC. Taiwan Power, which accounts for around 60% of the country’s LNG consumption, has been lobbying the government for change with chairman Edward Chen last week revealing possible plans to build an LNG plant of its own.
