Chilean demand for diesel is rising sharply due to cuts in gas imports from Argentina . Enrique Davila, chief executive of Chile 's state-owned oil and gas company, ENAP, said on Wednesday that average diesel consumption rose by 50% between 2006 and 2007 and has risen by the same rate already this year. Argentina completely halted gas exports to central Chile on Wednesday and Sunday (see Gas Matters Today, May 29). Last winter Argentina cut supplies by 90% due to increased domestic demand. Argentina provides over 80% of Chile 's gas needs.
