Diphenyldiazomethane (Ph_2CN_2) is widely used for the protection of carboxylic acids by conversion to their diphenylmethyl (dpm) esters since dpm group can be easily deprotected by mild acidic condition or hydrogenolysis,especially in the field of b-lactams and peptides.
