AUSTRALASIA - LNG Doubts raised over Ichthys LNG scheme to Northern Australia

Doubts have again been voiced over the feasibility of constructing the planned Ichthys LNG liquefaction plant, at Darwin, Northern Australia. Last week, Japan's Inpex Holdings and its joint venture partner, Total signed a project facilitiation agreement with the Northern Territory administration to consider constructing Ichthys at Middle Arm in Darwin (see Gas Matters Today, February 27). Inpex Managing Director Jiro Okada said while the preferred option for Ichthys remained the Marets Islands in the Kimberley region in Western Australia, it had to “explore all realistic options”.
