TransCanada receives NEB approval for Horn River gas pipeline

The $310 million Horn River gas pipeline project to connect British Columbia shale gas supplies to TransCanada’s Alberta System has been approved by the National Energy Board (NEB) Canada’s energy regulator – the project has a 2012 start-up date. The 155 km pipeline will be the second major pipeline extension to connect to the Alberta System to deliver shale gas supplies which are expected to increase to more than 5 Bcf/d by 2020. The first pipeline extension into British Columbia was the Groundbirch pipeline, which started gas deliveries in December 2010. Horn River and Groundbirch shippers have committed up to 1.9 Bcf/d by 2014 into Alberta System transportation contracts.
