Gazprom agrees to double Azerbaijani gas purchases

Gazprom has reached an agreement with SOCAR to double the amount of gas it purchases from Azerbaijan in 2012 from 1.5 Bcm to 3 Bcm, the Russian company said on Monday, with imports to exceed 3 Bcm/year from 2013. The deal revises the 2009 agreement which envisaged Gazprom importing 0.5 Bcm/year. In 2011, Gazprom doubled the amount of gas it purchased from Azerbaijan in 2010, taking roughly 1.5 Bcm and at the same time SOCAR and Gazprom agreed that purchases would rise again for 2012 (see Gas Matters Today, January 24, 2011).
