Geotechnical drilling in Vietnam/Drilling consultant Jervis Sparks reports on the latest activity at the Nui Phao mine site

CANADIAN company Tiberon Minerals'Nui Phao property in northern Vietnam completed its exploration drilling programme in 2003, and this year, on June 25, had completed a 1,500 metre, 22 hole geotechnical programme which will be included in the bankable feasibility study. The two main minerals at Nui Phao are tungsten and fluorspar, with by-products of copper, gold and bismuth. Added to the previous figures, a total of 230 holes have now been drilled at Nui Phao by Tiberon for a grand total of 26,000 m.These include scout, exploration, development, metallurgical and geotechnical holes.This geotechnical programme of drilling and test pitting was to study the soil and rocks which will form the ultimate open pit walls, and this information will be used to design safe slopes.
