PCrawford Sugg's interest in warm air heating was aroused when his wife purchased a portable Belling fanned electric heater to warm a nursery she was equipping in 1940. This room was 19ft by 9ft and 8ft high, however, the very modest fan power resulted in a sensibly even distribution of heat throughout the room. Mr Sugg, or PCS as he was known, was concerned that Wm Sugg & Co of which he was Technical Director, had been dependant largely on gas street lighting for over a century.
