摘要

Precisely determining and controlling the water content of chemicals and other commercial products are important considerations in multiple fields of chemistry and industrial processes. The water content of various commercial products including organic solvents is routinely determined by Karl Fischer titration or gas chromatography; however, alternative optical methods are quite desirable in terms of convenience and instrument requirements. Selective and sensitive optical signaling systems that utilize multifunctional dye molecules, such as merocyanines, flavones, chalcone, 3-hydroxychromone, naphthalimide, and indole derivatives have been developed as probes to sense the water content of commonly used organic solvents.
