摘要

An Automatic Milking System (AMS) is a dairy farming system based upon milking of animals by automatically operating equipment. A properly functioning AMS covers both the automatic milking installation (AMI) and the supporting facilities for the storage of the milk, and the equipment used to control animal traffic. Certain aspects of the layout and housing of the animals, feeding practices, pasture-transport systems and herd management are integrated parts of proper AMS management as they impact highly on the functioning and results of an AMS. The basic principle of the AMS is the automatic recognition and registration of pre-identified animals that enable automatic separation and diversion of milk according to pre-determined criteria combined withcleaning of the milking system at pre-determined intervals (see glossary for further details on the key elements).
