SACNASP originated from the Joint Council of Scientific Societies (JCSS) in the early 1980's. The formation of the Council was driven by scientists seeking credibility for their profession, and who wanted to be associated with good service delivery to their clients. Interestingly, this basic philosophy has not changed with time. A recent survey indicated that 75% of the SACNASP registered persons are registered with the Council because they want certification and recognition of their experience. Only 43% indicated that they have registered because it is compulsory. However, what has changed, as will become evident in the document, is that there is an increased drive from employers, both private and public, demanding proof of registration as a consideration for employment.
