I have been collecting minerals for about 35 years now and during this time my interests in the subject have changed a bit. I do still add to my collection from time to time but not as aggressively as in the past. This is partly due to financial constraints based on the escalating high prices of quality mineral specimens and also space constraints of an ever-expanding collection. As a result, I have become more and more interested in geological heritage and history of southern African mines and mineral sites that have produced specimens in the past. One of the spin-offs of this interest is doing literature searches and surveys for old publications dealing with South African minerals.
