Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) - Geological Society of South Africa (GSSA) 2008 Conference - Africa Uncovered - Mineral Resources for the Future

There is a TV commercial recently flighted in which two overly-dressed up grown men are sitting on a bench having a snack. One asks the other "Are you cold?" "No" is the reply, and he takes off a hat and a scarf. The other does the same, this continues and eventually the two are freezing in their underwear. The punch line is that anything you can do, I can do better - being a kid again. The SEG-GSSA 2008 Conference held at Misty Hills in Muldersdrift, 25 km northwest of Johannesburg, Gauteng, from the 7-10 July was by far the largest such event co-hosted by our Society. In addition, the international contingent was significant thanks to the SEG input. Over 550 delegates enjoyed the hospitality and facilities at the conference centre, and, in a snap and unrepresentative survey conducted by yours truly, all interviewed deemed it a resounding success. This despite some minor problems elaborated on later. But first a synopsis of the highlights, as per my prejudices!
