Limpopo Branch Activities 2003

The April visit to the Klipspringer Diamond Mine was something of a milestone in that the geological society at the University of Venda participated as an effective sub-branch of the long-established Limpopo Branch. This excursion to several Southern Era properties in the area was led by Paul Allen, Exploration Manager at Klipspringer. The visitors took in some beautiful scenery, very interesting rocks and held several lively discussions at the various stops (see photo). The itinerary included the Leopard Fissure, Sugarbird Blow and the Sugarbird Fissure. Lunch was had at the abandoned pit at the Marsfontein kimberlite pipe, followed by more discussions whilst grubbing over rock dumps for interesting specimens, where an enjoyable and instructive day came to a close.
