Environmental costs for dairy farmers - Danish case study for IDF

The following analysis is conducted in order to emphasize the extra cost which the Danish dairy farmer is experiencing due to a number of specific Danish rules and regulations within the areas of environmental protection, animal welfare, food safety, food and animal carried diseases, traceability and administration. The study is made to highlight these particular Danish production costs and give them an international comparable perspective. It is, however, very difficult to compare different national standards and their effects and costs, so most of the following costs are calculated as extra Danish costs compared to other EU countries. Further comparisons outside the EU depend on the material gathered by the IDF in this case study. Not all the above-mentioned areas of potential extra costs are registered as separate economic factors which is why parts of this analysis is based on a more descriptive analysis. The calculated costs below are based on a report made by the Farmers Union in Denmark.
