Forests as infrastructures. Innovative environmental plans for plains promoted by the region of Lombardy.

An illustrated account is given of the plans for 10 new forests in flat areas of Lombardy, Italy. These were first mooted in 1998, and by 28 June 2002, plans for seven new forests, occupying an area of 351 hectares and costing 12 867 324 euros, had been approved. Work on six of these projects began in 2003. Details are given of the financing of the projects and of plans for future projects.
