A biblical garden for a religious community.

In response to a request from a religious community for a quiet natural area for meditation, a study of plants mentioned in the Bible was undertaken. The site of the community in the north west Murge region of Bari province imposed restrictions on the potential plants for the garden, due to prevailing geology, soil conditions and climate. The site is surrounded by Pinus halepensis. In addition to the biblical garden, the site would include an open-air liturgical area, a cloister, an ornamental garden, a kitchen garden and a car park. The aim was to produce a harmonious combination of plants that would be esthetically pleasing as well as ministering to spiritual well being.
