Paleographic and technical analysis of a XVI century estimate.

摘要

The importance of chestnut (Castanea sativa var. macrocarpa) production during the XVI century in Italy is discussed. A comparison is presented of methods and units of measurement used during that period and modern times. Records from Pergine Valsugana, Trentino, showed that about 1.54 bushels (35 kg) of chestnuts and 1.47 bushels (25 kg) of rye were available per person. Data on agricultural profitability, population density and ancient linguistic changes are briefly examined.
