Characterization and evaluation of the purifying capacity of soils in the middle Corace valley.

A soil survey was conducted in a valley in Catanzaro province, S. Italy, as part of a long-term study to provide natural resource management and planning. An important part of the study was the identification of the risk of landslides and the vulnerability of the soils and aquifers to the infiltration of pollutants. Much of the study area is under intensive cereal agriculture. Soil characteristics (texture, permeability, pH, stability) in the valley were mapped, and soil physical and chemical dataare tabulated. An analysis is presented of potential soil capability to absorb urban sewage sludge.
