Message from the CEO

It is my privilege to be the Acting Chief Executive Officer during 2012, the centenary of the founding of the South African Geological Survey and its successor, the Council for Geoscience. The Geological Survey of South Africa came into being in 1912 with the merger of the survey bodies of the provinces of the Cape and Transvaal. From its small beginnings as a section of the former Department of Mines of the Union of South Africa, with only a handful of scientists, few resources and very limited funds, the organisation has grown into a well-respected science council that delivers world-class work.
