The transformation of benzyl alcohols to carbonyl compounds is one of the most fundamental reactions in organic synthesis.Various methods have been developed for the oxidation of benzyl alcohols to the corresponding benzaldehydes.Representative oxidants for this purpose include chromium(VI) reagents,transition metal nitrates on solid supports,hypervalent iodine compounds/ and dimethyl sulfoxides/HBr.
