Determination of Horizontal Movements by Static Deformation Models: A Case Study on the Mining Area

The importance of geodetic deformation measurements and analysis has gradually increased in the last decade. The method which is commonly used to determine deformation is called the geodetic monitoring network method. The monitoring network consists of deformation control points (object points) which are established on the moving area and control points which are established out of the stable area. The measurements are conducted with a periodic interval on the monitoring network. The coordinates of the points are calculated for each period. The control and object points are determined by mathematical statistic tests by comparing the coordinates in various periods. The aim of this study was to determine horizontal movements and directions of the movements on a mining area. For this aim, the deformation test network was established on a mine and its environment and measurements were conducted at different times. Geodetic deformation analysis conducted within this study is covering a part of the deformation investigation and comparing static deformation methods. Methods for the assessment of deformation measurements by means of static deformation models have been used by the geodetic data of a mine monitoring network. Finally, it was decided that the methods of theta(2)-criteria, generalization, and relative confidence ellipse according to priority can be used and Cholesky factoring method can be applied as a method which completes the analysis.
