Some promising news about psychosocial interventions for adolescent self-harm

Suicidal attempts and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) are common and highly recurrent behaviours in adolescents.1 Suicide attempt refers to self-destructive behaviour with inferred or explicit intent to die. NSSI refers to intentional self-injury for a motive other than to die, such as relief of negative emotion. Self-harm refers to either of these behaviours. There are no established, replicated treatments to prevent the recurrence of adolescent self-harm behaviours.
