Surgical web watch: Getting more via Ovid Online

From Medline to full text You've just carried out a Medline search. You've identified 20 articles that you'd like to get hold of. Some of these are from journals that you're eligible to access as a result of the College library's subscriptions - but how do you know which these are and how can you get to them? Until recently it's been possible but rather long-winded - log into the Members' Area of the College website, go to the e-journals section of the Online Library, check the list of accessible journals. If the one you want is there, follow the links to wherever the journal is hosted, then select the year, volume, issue and article that you want. All this is necessary because the database in which you're locating the references isn't able to match who you are with what you're able to access. If you're using the freely available PubMed version of Medline it has no way of ascertaining that you have an affiliation with the College which allows you access to certain journals. And until recently, if you've been using Ovid Medline (http://gateway.uk.ovid.com/athens), while there is a way of identifying this affiliation (as a result of your College-issued Athens login), we haven't been able to provide the next step of linking directly from there to the journals that we provide access to.
