We have noticed an increasing number of thermal injuries in vulnerable adults as a result of hot water scalds presenting to our unit. A recent case of a male in his thirties with learning difficulties burnt both feet standing in a bath unsupervised. This led to him losing his independence and requiring admission to a care facility due to the prolonged immobility as a result of his injuries. This is unacceptable. These injuries are preventable. We need to do more to safeguard vulnerable adults from preventable thermal injuries?
