Guide to the use of ISO standards for milking machine installations and additional definitions

The expert members of the International Dairy Federation Group A32 - Milking machines - have found a number of errors and in some cases unclear formulations in the ISO standards for milking machine installations: ISO 3918 Vocabulary, ISO 5707 Construction and performance and ISO 6690 Mechanical tests. The objective of this IDF publication is to assist the users of the three ISO Standards in interpreting them for practical application. ISO will be asked by IDF to undertake a revision of the texts when revision is next due (2001). In the first part "Errors in the ISO standards 3918, 5707 and 6690" the present formulation of the errors and the proposed changes are described. Technical corrigendum 1 to ISO 5707 of 01.02.1997 however, is not repeated.In the second part some "Additional definitions to ISO 3918" are presented. Most of these definitions have already been in use in some countries for many years, and hopefully they will be supplemented by some new definitions for Automatic milking systems. To facilitate worldwide communication and to stimulate to better description of research condition, comprehensive and clear definitions are essential.
