Dynamics of the parameters of pulses in uniaxial crystals

A set of equations describing the dynamics of the parameters of an electromagnetic pulse is derived using the Ritz-Whitham variational principle. An ordinary pulse component is a quasi-monochromatic pulse, and its extraordinary component is a videopulse. The transverse dynamics of pulses having the super- Gaussian shape is considered for propagation along an optical crystal axis.
