In conventional plant layout problems, the link method for seeking a sub-optimal solution has been proposed. However, because the link method includes ambiguous human considerations, it is difficult to construct a computer program for this method. Therefore, in this paper, we have proposed the layout planning approach using rules based on the link method to construct the relationship diagram by using a computer method. Furthermore, an algorithm for determining the arrangement of departments within the plant area has been constructed based on the obtained relationship diagram. Using the algorithm, a computer program has been written in C language and the computational results have been given. From the results, we can find the characteristics of the obtained solutions.
