Transverse myelitis: a rare cause of puerperal pyrexia.

Common causes of puerperal pyrexia include puerperal sepsis, urinary tract infection, breast complications, thrombosis, and malaria. Infections and autoimmune disorders are outlined as triggering mechanisms but the exact etiology remains unknown. We came across an interesting case of puerperal pyrexia caused by transverse myelitis, an inflammatory disorder involving the spinal cord. There is no case report of transverse myelitis in the puerperium, though a few cases have been reported during pregnancy [1-3]
