Gas-heated Large Chamber Furnaces for Deep-Case Carburising

Deep-case carburising to case-depths of 2 to 5mm was up to now almost exclusively done in large pit furnaces, leading to cycle times of several days up to one week. This long treatment time and the thus required large number of pit furnaces makes the heat treatment in this manner very costly and results in long order execution times. The example of deep-case carburising of chain components for each moving equipment shows how 22 pit furnaces were replaced by four large multiple-chamber furnaces with the results of increased capacity by 20%, high cost savings and largely reduced processing times.
