Spacecraft contain various instruments and mechanisms that require lubrication. For decades, many organic liquid lubricants, e.g., silicon oils, mineral oils, polyalphaolefins, perfluoropolyether, polyolesters, and multi-alkylated cyclopentanes, were used in space. To obtain liquid lubricants with good performance for aerospace, efforts were made for chemical synthesis and tribological investigation for some new types of silicon oil, which contain chlorobenzene and trifluoropropyl. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 11th Annual Fuels Lubes Asia Conference (Beijing, China 3/15-18/2005).
